Product Overview & Application Area
The Defro DBO 400 is a floor-standing, thermally insulated thermal storage tank with a nominal volume of 400 liters and an integrated heat exchanger. It is used to absorb, temporarily store, and release thermal energy as needed within professionally planned heating systems.
The 400-liter version combines an increased storage volume with a heat exchanger surface area of 4.5 m². The tank volume is intended for heating water or a suitable neutral heat transfer medium and is not approved for the direct storage of potable water.
Technology & Equipment
The integrated heat exchanger has a surface area of 4.5 m² and a capacity of 23.5 liters. A heat exchanger output of 100.0 kW and a flow rate of 2,350 liters per hour are specified. The actual transferable output depends on the media used, system temperatures, flow rate, and hydraulic integration.
Multiple side connection positions allow for flexible hydraulic integration. Sensor connections at different storage heights support temperature detection and control. A separate sleeve can be used for an optional electric heating element if the design is suitable.
Everyday Benefits
The floor-standing cylindrical design allows a storage volume of 400 liters to be accommodated in a clearly defined footprint. The removable thermal insulation facilitates installation and limits heat losses during operation.
Different connection and sensor positions make it easier to adapt to the respective system concept. Energy efficiency class C and a standby heat loss of 106.9 watts characterize the energy properties of the 400-liter version.
System Integration & Compatibility
The Defro DBO 400 is intended for thermal energy storage within closed heating systems. It can be combined with suitable heat generators, provided that the storage volume, heat exchanger, flow rate, temperatures, and pressure conditions match the planned system.
The specific media routing, the assignment of the heat exchanger, and the position of the hydraulic connections must be checked prior to installation based on the delivered version. The technical performance data do not replace thermal or hydraulic system planning.

Installation
Transport, setup, hydraulic connection and initial commissioning must be carried out by qualified specialist personnel. The storage tank must be installed vertically on a level, dry, frost-free and permanently load-bearing surface.
When the storage tank is completely full, a minimum load of approximately 486 kg must be expected without additional attachments. The safety valve, expansion vessel, venting, drainage and pipe sizing must be designed to suit the entire system.
Notes
The maximum operating pressure of 3 bar and the maximum medium temperature of 90 °C must not be exceeded. No shut-off device or cross-section reduction may be installed between the storage tank and the safety valve.
The specified heat exchanger output depends on the respective operating conditions. Before installation and commissioning, the model, connection design, media routing and operating limits must be checked on the type plate.
