The ATMOS DC22GSE with automatic ignition is a hand-fed wood gasification boiler with 23 kW nominal heat output for water-based central heating systems. This version combines the GSE wood gasifier with the ATMOS ACD04 electronic control, automatic wood ignition, and the Compact assembly group F8. The main fuel is dry split logs; wood pellets are used exclusively as an ignition aid for the automatic wood ignition.
The 23 kW output class is particularly suitable for single- and two-family houses as well as for the renovation and modernization of existing wood heating systems. For product selection, GEMA assigns this output to the 200–300 m² range as a guideline. The actual boiler sizing depends on the building's heat load and the planned system hydraulics.
Technology & Equipment
The DC22GSE operates on the wood gasification principle with reverse combustion. The ceramic-lined combustion area, separately adjustable primary and secondary air, the tube heat exchanger, and an induced draft fan support controlled combustion and heat transfer. A Belimo actuator limits the flue gas temperature and supports the regulation of the combustion process.
The ACD04 control expands the boiler with an electronic heating system controller with touch display. Depending on the system configuration, the boiler, boiler circuit, heating circuits, domestic hot water preparation, and other system functions can be integrated. The automatic wood ignition can be triggered according to schedule, buffer tank temperature, or heating demand. For ignition, the separate ignition chamber is prepared with wood pellets; the actual heat generation then takes place with split logs.
Everyday Benefits
The automatic ignition increases operating comfort compared to a wood gasification boiler that must be lit manually. The boiler can be prepared and the start can be scheduled via the ACD04 control either by time or depending on heat demand. This allows the typical split log operation to be combined with a more convenient start logic.
The fuel hopper holds 86 liters and accepts split logs up to 330 mm in length. The filling opening measures 450 × 260 mm. The scope of delivery also includes the ACD04 sensors intended for this version, the ignition components, and the connection set ATMOS F8 ESBE.
System Integration & Compatibility
The DC22GSE is intended for operation with a buffer tank and return temperature boosting. ATMOS requires at least 55 liters of storage volume per kilowatt of installed boiler output for the GSE series. For 23 kW, this results in a calculated minimum buffer volume of 1,265 liters. The ACD04 documentation assigns boilers from 15 to 25 kW to a buffer tank range of 1,000 to 1,500 liters.
The return temperature to the boiler must be at least 65 °C. The boiler temperature in normal operation is approximately 80–90 °C. A chimney draft of 18 Pa is specified for the DC22GSE. Buffer tank, return temperature boosting, chimney, safety heat exchanger, and heating circuits must be professionally designed as an integrated system.

Installation
Installation, hydraulic integration, chimney connection, electrical connection, configuration of the ACD04 control, and initial commissioning must be carried out by appropriately qualified specialists. System planning includes in particular the buffer tank, return temperature boosting, expansion and safety devices, thermal drain safety, and the professional design of the flue gas path.
Notes
For intended operation, sufficiently dry log wood with a 12–20 % moisture content must be used. The wood pellets in the ignition chamber serve exclusively for automatic firing and do not make the DC22GSE a pellet boiler. If the automatic ignition is not used, the blank chamber provided for this purpose must be inserted. The minimum return temperature of 65 °C must be maintained at all times.
