How does a photovoltaic system work?

A photovoltaic system (PV system for short) converts solar energy into electrical energy using the photovoltaic effect. The solar modules on the roof capture the sun's energy and generate direct current (DC), which is then converted into usable alternating current (AC) (230V) by an inverter. This allows the self-generated photovoltaic electricity to be used directly in the household, stored in a battery if desired, or fed into the public power grid.
